In Jesus’ story known as the Prodigal Son, we get a picture of a father running to greet his wayward son who came home after foolishly squandering his inheritance.
This picture of a Jewish father running to his son would have been scandalous in an Eastern culture. No such story would have been told by a rabbi. But Jesus did, and we still feel the impact today.
The father’s love and mercy for the selfish Son remind us that our heavenly Father waits for us to come to our senses in the pigpen, repent, and come home.
