The guards had their orders to arrest Jesus, but refused to act because they heard Him teach and were struck by His grace and authority.
The religious rulers were incensed that these ignorant guards could be swayed by the rogue teacher. This arrogant religious spirit continues its work today.
The rulers responded with disdain and doubt, while the guards responded with awe and wonder. As for me, I’ll side with the guards. May we be struck by awe and wonder. - Pastor Jimmy
