The Daily Grind ☕️ - I Once Was Blind, But Now I See

“Amazing grace, how sweet the sound, that saved a wretch like me. I once was lost but now I’m found, was blind but now I see.” - Rev. John Newton

These are some of the richest words ever penned. We have Pastor John Newton to thank. Newton penned these words in 1773.

They resonate with those who understand that they have been saved only by God’s grace and now live as free sons and daughters in Christ.

We formerly lived as slaves under the taskmaster of sin’s demonic grip.

Now, we live in the freedom of God’s grace. Sin is no longer your master.

Before becoming an Anglican clergyman, John Newton was a participant in the Atlantic slave trade.

Newton’s conversion resulted in his becoming an ardent abolitionist, then a minister of the gospel.

This hymn reflects his transition from slavery under sin to freedom under grace in Christ.

Reread the first sentence and let the truth of God’s grace wash over you once again. You once were blind, but now you see! - Pastor Jimmy
